On Tour With Curtis Needs A Ride

Here's what I've been up to. It's not going very well so far, but we'll be at a lake house on Monday - Wednesday in Branson, MO and then in St. Louis on Wednesday night for Austin's wedding party extravaganza. I think it can only get better from here.

Leaving For Austin

We rented a 15 passenger van this morning. I turn 25 on Wednesday and the system wouldn't allow them to process my credit card but Austin and I were all smiles, so they called the company managers in a corporate meeting at DFW and had them override the system, praise God.

I packed for two weeks of travel last night from 2am until 4am. I thought it would take longer, but after I put everything I've been using for the last few months into a backpack I realized that I really didn't have that much stuff anymore. I'm feeling really good about this.

More news from the road in a few hours. Check my twitter for live updates throughout the trip. Love you.

Quenching My Wanderlust

I just dropped $600 on plane tickets. Here is my itinerary:

Fort Worth to Austin - May 30th-31st
Austin-Dallas-June 1st
Dallas-Tulsa-June 2nd
Branson, MO - June 3rd, 4th
St. Louis - June 5th and 6th
L.A. - June 7th-14th
DFW - June 14th-26th
Glacier National Park Montana - June 27th-29th

After that, I don't really know. I actually bought one-way tickets both to L.A. and Montana. Here is the evidence:

Let's All Trip On Some Fruit!

Have you heard of this inconspicuous fruit, which after being chewed, makes everything taste sweet? Supposedly, after you chew on it, you can munch on a fresh lemon and it tastes like a piece of candy.

I want to have a fruit-tripping dinner party ASAP!

Ok, this deserves it's own blog post because I am about to jump out of my skin. I need to travel, now, desperately. I just signed up for the couch surfing network. And I'm frantically checking for deals or specials or secret weekend getaways.

I need to get away and I don't think I can wait much longer. I just want to hit the road, leave the country, without a plan.

A big problem living in central Texas is that to go anywhere, it's a long trip. Well, I'm going to Austin's wedding in St. Louis on the 6th of June and I'm flying somewhere else on the 7th of June. I'm open to any suggestion you might have. I can fly to London quite cheaply, but I've spent 4 of my last 5 summers in Europe. I can also fly to Buenos Aires for a good price, but I don't know if travel from there will be affordable or efficient.

Adventure awaits my friend.

Taking June to Re-Find Myself

A few weeks ago, I was told by the production company that took me to Kenya and India last summer, that sometime around June 10th, we'd be going to Russia for 10 days, then in July we'd be going back for two weeks and then in August we'd be going back to Kenya and India.

Last summer they didn't even tell us where we'd be going and then sent me a plane ticket to Kenya while I was in the Mediterranean.

This is exactly how I always dreamed my life would look. I've always wanted to be an adventurer and a filmmaker and now I get to do both on a pretty regular basis.

Well the trip to Russia has been postponed. Originally I was hoping to spend the entire month of June in Alaska, but due to the hope of Russia I never really planned that trip out. Now I've got June 7th through the 14th free and a whole globe of possibilities.

Here are some future trips I'm planning:

South America, Galapagos, Easter Island
Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam)
South Pacific (Fiji, New Zealand, Australia)

I'll keep you posted of course. I've got big plans for a new video podcast launch from the road. Now I just need to invest in a new video camera, Macbook Air and a worldwide cell phone plan.

Review of The New Coldplay Album

I didn't even know this was coming out. I'm a big fan actually and I can't wait. Read The Sun review here.

I'm Going Back to Kenya

In August, just FYI.

To Live In Fort Worth or Not

I found a house in Fort Worth today, .7 miles from my office (office is on Currie St. right next to Fred's), an easy bike ride to the W. 7th area.

But my friends are in Hollywood.

What should I do? Should I pay 3 times as much to live in the chaos of Los Angeles, so that I can be more immersed in the film industry and be close to my awesome, believing friends? Or should I rent a nice little 2br, 1bath house in a rad neighborhood in Fort Worth and ride a bike around, living a less stressful existence?

Seriously, I need some help making this decision.

Up All Night, Again

This time willingly. I've gotta get this TV show edited by tomorrow at 11am. I show it to the Executive Producer at 1pm and let's just say, I'm not exactly at the point I should be at after having it for 3 weeks.

I don't have any time to procrastinate by writing a long blog post, so I'll just leave you with some pictures from the last 4 days.Martha and I before Radiohead came onstage.
Radiohead stage. I really liked the lighting. Proper lighting to get me in the zone is of the utmost importance while concerting. The infamous Red Cinema Camera that Justin at Digital Shakedown owns. We shot 2 spots this weekend. One was for and one was for Justin directed the first, I directed the second.Justin DPing my spot. It's going to look nice. I'll post it when it's done of course.

Ugh, Insomnia

I wish I wasn't writing this right now, I wish I was asleep. But I drank an iced vanilla latte at Benj and Jamie's show at Opening Bell tonight at 7pm and I can't stop twitching. I laid in bed for 2 hours to no avail. I even finally read chapters 47 and 48 of Ezekiel. HAVE YOU EVER READ THEM?

But I'm still awake and so I'm blogging, not because I want to, but because I need to let you know what's going on.

Now that you actually read my blog I can't be as honest as I want to. Have you read Dooce's latest post? She is so honest, it is tragic and beautiful. I want to be that honest, but I know that if I was that honest about myself, you wouldn't pay me to make videos for you because I would become too much of a risk due to my mental instability. You'd be like, "Uh-uh, we are not letting Anton do this video. He is liable to flip out and have a nervous breakdown and not get this thing done, and we can't have that, this video is important." But let me assure you, I've never done that. Oh sure, I have nervous breakdowns every once in a while. But I'll still do a good job on your video, even when I'm losing my shit.

I've been praying a lot lately, prayers of desperation and hope. I've also been reading various books of the Bible, reading like crazy, just trying to figure out what's going on. I've been on a DELIBERATE path for the last year, I know I have. But it's taken some sacrifice and it's been hard to swallow my pride and just go through with it all. Eventually, when all is said and done in this chapter, I'll have a significant artistic statement to attach to my name and that's going to feel very good.

Somebody please help me stop ending sentences in prepositions, I don't know what I do it for.

The Giant Pool Of Money - This American Life

If you are wondering why we are in a recession AND why our money is inflating, well, This American Life has the answer, in their last episode The Giant Pool of Money. It's available for free download and it's mind blowing.

Widescreen HQ on YOUTUBE!!!

**Update** You need to be in "Beta" mode to see it in true HQ widescreen.

Go to the video on it's actual Youtube Page to see it in it's true form.

I can't tell you how excited this makes me. It's about freaking time.

Tabitha Says I Look Like a Lesbian

Tabitha, one of my friends from college says that it's eerie for her to watch the show Work Out on Bravo, because she hasn't seen me since I used to wear my hair in a faux hawk, and supposedly I have a look that is similar to the show's host, Jackie Warner, a pretty, buff lesbian.

I'm just happy to be compared to a non-cartoon character for once.

Umm, Summer Plans

I may or may not have reported that I canceled my Alaska trip in June, you know, the one where I go into the Alaskan wild with a camcorder, cell phone, 44 Magnum and find myself. Well, I canceled it. The opportunity arose to go to Russia, film a heartwarming story and get paid for it and well, I took it. Chances are, I'll go to Russia twice this summer and then Kenya again in early August. I'll still bring the camcorder, computer and this time, I'm getting an airport lounge pass.

Any tips for getting high-speed internet access over cell phone lines all over the world?

My DREAM is to have a tiny HD video camera that records to a hard-drive, a Macbook Air, and to edit my travel vlogs and upload them daily as travel all over the world. I'm going to do it too.

More info when I have the dates.

Short Hiatus

I'm not going to stop blogging. No, 3 years of constant blogging is a good indication of my dedication.

But I need more quality and to get refocused.

I'm learning some new programs. I'm sleeping more and I'm finishing some projects that are on my plate, some of which are actually worth money.

I've grown a little weary of the internet. It's over-saturated. That's not to say that it doesn't have power, but I'd like it to be a tool of information and entertainment, rather than just procrastination and information overload.

I'm trying to figure out where to go next with my video making. Have you ever visited my Youtube page? - Anton, that's me. I want to do another video series, but I don't want to do it unless it's done right. I really feel like nobody cares about the last 2 video series I've done and that is a bit disheartening. I think it's because they are probably just too boring for the internet.

So I'm going to regroup and hopefully come back a better blogger and someone who contributes more positively to the growth of New Media.

Thank you.

Oh and P.S. check out John Hodgman's blog (yes, PC of the Mac vs. PC ads). I love his style - that is all.

Getting Close

Some girls are into this. Most are not. I'm thinking I've got a few more months of growing.

Part 3 in Prague, It Is Complete

This is the 3rd and final part of the Prague series. In it I ride a bike to a pretty area North of Prague called Troya. It's not the final video in the Anton's Adventure series though. Oh no, we've still got Cyprus, Kenya and India to go!

It felt good to finally get this one out. I hope you like it.

For Martha, 2 of 2

This picture was taken by Sam at Jay and Jenn's wedding about 2 weeks ago. I used to be terrified of dancing, but these days, I just chase those fears away with a few tugs of Beam and boom, it's time to DANCE. Not that I'm condoning drinking as medicine for social anxiety, but for me, a wedding is a time to celebrate, hard.Oh yeah, that's the money shot. I get massive red-eye in pictures because my pupils dilate so much. Anyone know a trick in Photoshop to take care of this? The red-eye zapper in iphoto is terrible.

For Martha, 1 of 2

Martha, a very close friend, was a little offended that I didn't include her in my post of random pictures of me on Facebook, so here is me making amends. I would put the other one up too but Facebook is being a little lame.
P.s. Heather, you're in this picture too!

I Want Everyone To Have What I Had

*Broken link is fixed

Radiohead ALL I NEED video for MTV's EXIT CAMPAIGN

Only a few years ago, I became aware of how blessed I was to have had the childhood I did. I want every child to have the childhood that I had, unadulterated and full of learning.

Say what you want to about MTV, but this is a good video.
